Project to improve water supply in Hubli, Dharwad

DHARWAD: The State Government has approved a Rs. 176-crore project to improve water supply in Hubli and Dharwad. In all probability, the work will commence in 2006, Minister for Municipal Administration S.R. Morey said here on Tuesday.
Speaking after performing "Bhoomi Puja" for road works taken up under the fourth phase of a Rs. 30-crore project to develop roads in the twin cities, Mr. Morey said there is no dearth of funds to implement the third phase of the Malaprabha drinking water project.
The Finance Minister, the Finance Secretary and the Urban Development Secretary have approved the project, and it will be implemented once the Cabinet approves it in the next meeting, Mr. Morey said. Under the Rs. 30-crore project, 23 roads in Dharwad north and south will be developed at a cost of Rs. 10 crores. The work will be completed in 10 months, he said.
Hanumanthappa Betageri, Mayor, Hubli-Dharwad, and council members Pratap Chauhan, Bharati Patil, Shantha Budihal, Akkamahadevi Teli, Shashikala Shukla, Mummijan Guttal and Lalita Lokur were present. S.L. Koshti, Superintending Engineer, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, welcomed the gathering.
