Park mooted for Hubli's development into IT hub

Dr Nagaraj L Hiregoudar, management professor and coordinator of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Park (STEP) of BVB College , has proposed a model for Software park called 'Z Software Park Model for Hubli' based on the Tsinghua Software Park , to attract software investments in Hubli.
Hiregoudar's Z Park draws inspiration from the International Conference on Management of Technology (IAMOT) he attended at Beijing , China .
It has all infrastructure to house 200 companies with office buildings, residential quarters and amenities like swimming pool, exhibition centers, internal transportation system.
At IAMOT it was resolved that technology management, innovation management, strategic management should be introduced as subjects at undergraduate courses, Hiregoudar said.
It was high time that technology was managed properly and strategies were developed to cope with technological advancements. Unless people at middle management and workers accepted quality standards, in government as well as private organisations, the desired results of total quality for the benefit of producers and consumers cannot be achieved.
The professor said that India had gained a reputation world wide as the largest provider of technical manpower and a number one in software development.
To encourage foreign investment, India should concentrate on excellent infrastructure in terms of land and air connectivity, clean and wide roads and flyovers, he opined.
Faster and pollution free modes of transport within and between cities were necessary, he said.
Taking on China
China had developed in Hardware Technology such as semiconductors, microchips. The Chinese were considered to be sincere, hardworking and service minded. Indians had to build such a reputation.
Another factor in China 's favour with regard to attracting foreign investment was that its law enforcing agencies performed their duties diligently and sincerely
The Indian government and people should work to strengthen the enforcement agencies, he explained. "Our advantage is that we have better English speaking and writing skills than the Chinese."
Hiregoudar said that a mechanism should be developed to commercialise research output from industry institution partnership.
Most of the product design and development in manufacturing was the fruit of strong ties between academic institutions and industries.
Market research
The output from institute-industry partnership could be sold to any entrepreneurs who intend to buy product technology.
The conference at Beijing concluded that there would be no point in technology developments and paper publications that do not have strong market research support.
At the conference, Hiregoudar, a management consultant for Malaysian Companies, presented the paper entitled "Employee Issues in the Implementation of ISO 9000 Quality System in Manufacturing Companies in Malaysia ".

DHARWAD: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti, Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar and Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani stole the show at the "Olympic Day Run" organised here on Sunday by running the entire 6-km stretch.
The programme, organised by the Dharwad district administration, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and Karnataka Olympic Association, was an attempt to foster Olympic spirit among people, especially youngsters.
The run began from R.N. Shetty Stadium and concluded at the same venue.
Starting from the stadium the Minister, Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner, officials and hundreds of students and sports enthusiasts passed through the Jubilee Circle, Basavanal Circle, Vivekananda Circle, KCC Bank, Gandhi Chowk, Kamanakatti Circle, Hosayellapur Circle, Valmiki Circle, Bagalkot Petrol Station, Yemmikeri, Shushrutha Hospital, Ulavi Basaveshwar Temple, Head Post Office, Court Circle, P.B. Road and returned to starting point via Jubilee Circle. The run attracted many, and at a few places, people lined up by the roadside to cheer the runners.
Mr. Horatti, district-in-charge Minister Jagadish Shettar and former Minister S.R. Morey flagged off the run.
Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner S.A. Mathad, Karnataka Olympic Association president K.V. Govindraj, secretary Anantraj, district unit president K.S. Bhimannanavar, Dharwad tahsildar Vinayak Joshi also participated in the run.
Later, certificates were given to participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Horatti felt such events helped in building goodwill and coordination among members of society.
He announced that a sports event comprising all events included in the Olympics would be organised in Dharwad in November in association with Karnataka Olympic Association.

LIVE INTERACTION: Presspersons in Hubli interacting with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy through the EDUSAT network, as part of `Kannada Patrika Dinacharane' on Sunday.
HUBLI: An interaction programme for presspersons from all district centres with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy through the EDUSAT network of engineering colleges of the State on Sunday proved to be a disappointing experience for many.
The programme was organised by the Karnataka Madhyam Academy, State Information Department and the Visvesvaraya Technological University to mark "Kannada Patrika Dinacharane".
It was the first of its kind in the State. However, technical glitches marred the programme.
There were only two telephone lines to receive calls from presspersons across the State and not many of them got a chance to ask questions.
Replying to a question on whether the State Government was contemplating giving any special package for the development of Hubli-Dharwd to attract investment, the Chief Minister said that his Government would develop infrastructure in the twin cities through the schemes of the Department of Urban Development. Some information technology companies had evinced interest in investing in Hubli and Dharwad, he added.

BANGALORE: Though the Karnataka government has claimed that Tata Motors'much touted Rs 1 lakh car project would be based surely in Dharwad, sources told ToI that a final decision has not been taken yet by the Tatas.
The sources, however, said the Tata Motors team has shown interest in Dharwad due to its geographic location, being located between Bangalore and Pune (where Tata has major facilities).
When contacted Tata Motors said it will not like to comment on state-specific developments on the project, as the company is looking at various locations.
Ratan Tata has targeted annual sales of 1 million units of the Rs 1 lakh car which is scheduled to be launched in 2008-09.
The company has planned multi-location assembly units of the car to cater to these volumes, and that's how locations in Karnataka, Bengal and Uttaranchal got thrown into the picture.
