HUBLI: Basavaraj Horatti, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, has said that about 224 villages have been selected for the implementation of ‘Kugram-Suvarna gram’ scheme in the State.

Launching the scheme at Kongawad village of Navalgund taluk here recently, he said a sum of Rs 20 lakh would be given to each village as scheme amount to improve basic facilities including roads, toilets and drinking water.

The total amount will be released within two years and Rs 5 lakh has already been released by government to selected villages, he said.

Five villages, including Agrahar, Timmasagar and Aralikatti,have been selected from Dharwad district.He said that district, village and taluk level committees would be formed to monitor the progress of works. Services of voluntary associations will also be roped.

He has sanctioned a sum of Rs 4 lakh to implement the drinking water project in Kongawad village. He also promised to release Rs 60 lakh for the construction of bridge over Handinal canal.

He sought co-operation of the villagers to extend the benefits of various schemes to the needy.

Dr R B Shiriyannavar, MLA, Navalgund spoke and assured to implement more welfare schemes for the development of villages.

K S Umapati, ZP CEO, N H Konareddi, T B Gangadharamath, Veeranna Turamari, A S Patil, M R Kulkarni and others were present.
