Sanitation scheme for Dharwad district launched

DHARWAD: Minister for Municipal Administration S.R. Morey on Sunday launched a State-level total sanitation programme at Karadigudda of Dharwad taluk to mark Gandhi Jayanti.

Mr. Morey said the scheme will help put an end to farmers going to open field to answer the nature's call.

For Dharwad District, Rs. 6.32 crores had been sanctioned for the four-year programme. Dharwad Rural MLA (Congress) Vinay Kulkarni, Janata Dal (United) MLC Basavaraj Bommai, and Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer K. Umapati spoke.

Various organisations and associations celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in Hubli and Dharwad.

Mayor Hanumanthappa Betageri paid tributes to the Mahatma at his statue in front of the Karntaka Institute of Medical Sciences.

Deputy Mayor Santhosh Hirekerur paid tributes at the Azad Park in Dharwad.

Elocution, essay writing and painting competitions, and blood donation camps were held as part of the celebration.
