Govt to release Rs 20 cr soon: Mayor

HUBLI: Mayor Hanumantappa Betageri has said that the State Government would soon release Rs 20 crore to Hubli-Dharwad Muncipal Corporation to take up developmental works.
He told mediapersons that a proposal sent by the corporation demanding Rs 42 crore for infrastructure development was approved by the Urban Development Department.
The corporation will take up developmental works, including construction of pavements, streamlining of UGD system, upgrading roads etc, with the amount.
There will be no further delay in executing works after releasing the amount, he added.
He said the corporation had decided to request the State government to allocate Rs 400 crore for the overall development of twin-cities and to complete the third phase of Malaprabha drinking water project in the ensuing budget.
He said that PWD officers concerned had been directed to take up works on constructing a ring road to ease traffic congestion.
He also said that it had been decided to acquire land from the KIADB for the development of the airport and the authorities had been asked to take immediate measures to install lighting facility for night landing.
Laxman Uppar, Yamanur Gudihal and Altaf Kittur were present at a press conference.
