Dharwad:A four-day ‘Krishi Mela’ is organised by the University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad from September 29 upto October 2.

According to an official press release here, the proposed mela will focus on types of crops to be grown in the wake of perishing of crops due to excess rains. Those farmers who have successfully overcome the situation and reaped a good harvest would be invited to discuss with farmers. After three years of successive drought this region experienced unprecedented rains because of which crops have been wiped out.

Special demonstration

There will be special demonstration of shaded house farming, green house farming, drip irrigation, polythene mulching farming and drought resistant farming.

For the first time ‘National Agricultural Machinery Exhibition-2005’ is being organised at the Krishi Mela in association with Department of Agriculture. The purpose of this was to introduce farmers about advent of new machinery through which farmers could complete farming activity quickly.

Open house session

The manufacturing companies from various parts of the country will be participating in this exhibition to fulfil the needs of small and marginal farmers.

There will be special open house session and demonstration of protection of depleting underground water table, protection of soil health, growing of aromatic and medicinal plants and bio fuel trees.

Besides, there will be exhibition of cattle, pets, use of donkeys in agriculture, manufacturing of nutritious food out of cereals, inland fisheries and sale and demonstration of agricultural equipment. This year there will be distribution of ‘Shreshta Krishika’ and ‘Shreshta Krishi Mahile’ selected from 12 districts of north Karnataka.
