NGO to fund poor students

Dharwad-based Vidya Poshak, an NGO built with large number of volunteers is working for empowerment of student community. It is extending financial assistance to poor and meritorious students, who are unable to continue their higher education due to financial difficulties. Till date Vidya Poshak has assisted more than 2,000 students to the tune of Rs 70 lakh.
Vidya Poshak secretary R N Tikot said for 2005-06, the NGO has teamed up with Prerana of Raichur to provide financial assistance to over 100 students to take up professional courses like engineering, medical, etc, who are unable to continue their higher education due to financial difficulties.
More than 1,000 students have already been given financial assistance under non-professional category for 2005-06.
