HUBLI: Jabbar Khan Honnali, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, said here on Thursday that the laying of the new pipeline between Amminbhavi and Nripatunga Hill in Hubli will be completed in 10 months.

Speaking to presspersons after offering "Ganga Puja" at the Neersagar reservoir in Kalghatgi taluk, which has received good inflow following the rains in the region, he said this will go a long way in easing the water crisis in Hubli.

The reservoir is a source of drinking water for the residents of Hubli-Dharwad.

Mr. Honnali said once the pipeline is laid, water can be supplied to residents of the twin cities once in three days.

Good inflow


Neersagar reservoir, which had almost dried up, has received 1927.25 ft of water so far, which is 50 per cent of its total capacity, he said.

Malaprabha reservoir at Naviluteerth in Savadatti taluk (Belgaum district), which is a major source of drinking water for Hubli-Dharwad, has also registered a good inflow. The reservoir requires another 9 tmc to reach its maximum level, he said.

Mr. Honnali said steps are being taken to increase water supply to the twin cities and efforts are on to get a sanction for the Rs. 176-crore project for improving the drinking water supply system.

Unkal lake

Earlier the Minister visited the Unkal Lake in Hubli, which is overflowing and hoped that the lake will contribute to recharging the ground water in neighbouring areas.

Hanumantappa Betageri, Mayor, Hubli Dharwad Municipal Council, former Mayors Anilkumar Patil, Prakash Kayarakatti, Mangalagouri Agnihotri and executive engineers of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board K.V. Srikeshav and K.P. Jayaram and others were present.

Bangalore/Dharwad: The foundation stone for the circuit Bench of the High Court at Dharwad will be laid on August 14, law and parliamentary affairs minister H.K. Patil said on Wednesday.

However, the foundation for another circuit Bench at Gulbarga is likely to be laid on August 20. Addressing reporters, Patil said the Bench at Dharwad will be established in the premises of Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI), off the Bangalore-Pune highway. Chief justice N.K. Sodhi will lay the foundation stone and the function will be attended by governor T.N. Chaturvedi and chief minister N. Dharam Singh.

In Gulbarga, the Bench will be established at Aiwan-e-Shahi area. Civil work on these projects is likely to commence in the first week of November.

Dharwad Bar Association has decided to call off the relay hunger strike it had launched from Tuesday. Association president B.D. Hiremath appealed to lawyers not to create unnecessary hurdles at this stage as the Bench was coming up after decades of struggle.
