Jubilant: Members of the public and lawyers seen in the corridors of the Circuit Bench building of High Court in Dharwad on Monday.

DHARWAD: A festive atmosphere prevailed at the High Court Circuit Bench situated adjacent to Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) on the Pune-Bangalore national highway here on Monday — the first day of the functioning of the Bench.

What would from now onwards become a necessity and be ignored as routine procedure in the coming days were observed as if it were a ritual.

There was an air of celebration and the enthusiasm was palpable in everything that the lawyers did on the first day. And to add to their joy, there were scores of advocates from other parts of the State, mainly Bangalore.

The most active among the Dharwad advocates was B.D. Hiremath, president of the Dharwad Bar Association, who was seen greeting almost everybody.

On the occasion, the Circuit Bench unit of the Dharwad Bar Association was also inaugurated. High Court judges S.R. Bannurmath, A.N. Venugopala Gowda, Ashok B. Hinchigeri, A.S. Pachapure and Abdul Nazeer took part in it.

Many of the Dharwad advocates who were wearing the customary gown then posed for photographs before the Circuit Bench building.

Meanwhile N. Dinesh Rao assumed office as Principal Government Advocate at the Circuit Bench.

There was good crowd inside and outside the court halls as the judges started conducting the hearing of various pending cases. During the first hour of the court, there was not much space left in the corridors.
