Rally for protection of lakes

DHARWAD: In order to enlighten the people to protect the lakes and maintain them properly for water conservation, NSS units of various colleges will take out ‘Jala-Jagruti jatha’ a massive rally in Dharwad on October 16.
The rally is aimed at bringing all the people in general, environmentalists under one banner, to think over the existing conditions of few survived lakes including Kelageri lake, in Hubli-Dharwad and to explore the possible ways to protect them from being encroached and extinct.
Noted poet Dr Chennaveer Kanavi will inaugurate the rally at Dharwad railway station on Sunday.
Rally will pass through Keshvanagar, Michigan Compound, Jayanagar, Ramakrishna Ashram, Bhavikatti Plot, Rani Chennamma Nagar and culminate at Kelageri lake where a meeting of environmentalists has been organised.
P Manivannan, Commissioner, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Dr U A Attar, Registrar, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Dr P Kuttiyal, B G Mulimani, Dr Murigeppa, Dr H M Maheshwaraiah, Dr C A Somashekharappa and others from various colleges will take part in the rally, according to a press release.
