HUBLI: Several issues including the allotment of land to Information Technology companies, the setting up of a law university and the development of model roads, tanks, schools and libraries in the twin cities figured in the review meeting concerning the development of the twin cities here on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Minister for Revenue and district in-charge Jagadish Shettar. They said that while top priority should be given to the allotment of land to IT companies, the issue of giving land to the law university should not be overlooked. Earlier, Mr. Manivannan gave a presentation on the progress of various development works in the twin cities and pending issues that needed attention of the State Government. Mr. Manivannan said the corporation was facing a staff shortage. He said the State Government was yet to release Rs. 32 crore for the improvement of infrastructure in the twin cities.

The Ministers said it would be better to fix a meeting with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers along with senior officials to sort out issues including the improvement of drinking water supply in Hubli-Dharwad.

Mr. Bommai stressed the need for introducing need-based financing for the development of Hubli-Dharwad on the lines of Bangalore.

Underscoring the need to develop a six-lane bypass road, he said the twin cities required flyovers and said long-term plans should be chalked out for the purpose.
