DHARWAD: B Sriramulu, Tourism Minister, has made it clear that the works on development of Sadhankeri Lake will begin from November 1 after laying foundation stone.

Disclosing this to reporters here on Tuesday, after inspecting Sadhankeri Lake, Sriramulu said that adequate financial assistance required for the overall development of the lake would be released from the tourism department.

He said, “I am pained to see the pathetic condition of Sadhankeri Lake, which had once inspired renowned poet Dr D R Bendre to write down excellent poetry works.”

“I have taken this issue seriously and I am determined to restore a life into the lake by converting it into a tourist place,” he added.

He said that Tourism Ministry would not only release adequate funds for the development of Sadhankeri lake, but also would provide sufficient fund for the improvement of the museum being opened in D R Bendre National Trust at Sadhankeri, here.

He informed that a committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner consisting of officers of the district tourism department would soon be constituted to submit exact estimation of the amount required for the overall development of this lake after conducting a proper survey on entire Sadhankeri Lake and Bendre Bhavan.

Replying to the demand of appointing a special officer to prepare a comprehensive estimation plan for the development of the lake and the Trust, the Minister said that the Commissioner of Tourism Department and the principal secretary would soon be sent to this place for further inspection of lake.

If they suggested to appoint a special officer, steps would be taken to appoint a special officer, he said.

He said as part of beautification of Sadhankeri Lake, a proper fencing, boating facility and fountain would be provided to attract large number of people to this lake.

LUXURY ON WHEELS: The Minister said that on the line of ‘Place on wheels’ project in Rajasthan, the State Government had planned to implement ‘Luxury on Wheels’ project in the State from next month.

In this project, a train would travel to all important tourist places in the State. Arrangements would be made to stop this train in Dharwad to enable people to have a glimpse of Bendre Bhavan and rare collection of Dr D R Bendre’s poetry work at museum, he said.

He disclosed that there was a Rs 1.5 crore proposal for the improvement of Unkal lake which would be sanctioned soon.

Later, the Minister inspected the Kelgeri Lake. He promised to announce his plans for the development of Kelgeri Lake on November 1 during his next visit to lay foundation stone to begin works on improvement of Sadhakeri Lake.

Dr M M Kalburgi, Chairman of the Bendre Trust, Dr Bidarkundi, Prof Sadanand Kanavalli, Dr Raghavendra Rao and others were present at the press conference.
