DHARWAD: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA)’s Dharwad zone inter-district cricket tournament commences at B V B College of Engineering and Technology ground, Hubli, from Sunday.

Hubli City takes on Gadag in the inaugural fixture. Dharwad City, Belgaum district and Karwar districts are the other teams participating in this tournament being played on the round robin league upto Sept 20.

The itinerary is as follows: Sept 11: Hubli vs Gadag, Sept 12: Hubli vs Dharwad, Sept 13: Dharwad vs Karwar, Sept 14: Karwar vs Gadag, Sept 15: Belgaum vs Dharwad, Sept 16: Belgaum vs Karwar, Sept 17: Karwar vs Hubli, Sept 18: Belgaum vs Hubli, Sept 19: Belgaum vs Gadag, Sept 20: Dharwad vs Gadag.

DHARWAD DIST TEAMS: The following players have been provisionally selected to represent the Dharwad district schools in the Divisonal level schools cricket selections.

The names announced by the Dharwad Districts Superintendent of Physical Education, G D Hiremath, after the trials held at the K E Board’s PU College ground, Dharwad are as follows:

Primary (under-14) section: Shreyas Murdeshwar (K E Board’s High School, Dharwad), Bharath Itagi, Prateek Kulkarni (both from Basel Mission English Medium High School, Dharwad), Akshay Angadi (St Paul’s High School, Hubli);

Murali Rajagopal (Rotary English Medium School, Hubli), Shashank Hulmani, Sanket Diwan (both from Pavan English Medium High School, Dharwad), Anjaneya Utagi (St Andrew’s High School, Hubli), Ketan Deshpande (JSS School, Dharwad), Sandeep Jahagirdar (Lion’s English Medium School, Hubli) and Omkar Bendre (Karnataka High School, Dharwad);

Reserves: Ramadas Hegde (Rotary English Medium School, Hubli), Kartik Borkar (Basel Mission English Medium High School, Dharwad), S Raghukumar (Karnataka State Police Childrens Residential School, Dharwad) and Rakesh Wali (K E Board’s High School, Dharwad).

SMPU, SHARADA WIN: Shri Manjunatheshwar Pre-University College and Sharada Pre-University College won the boys and girls’ titles respectively in the Dharwad taluka level Pre-University inter collegiate ball badminton tournament at the Sharada PU College ground on Saturday.

Shri Manjunatheshwar PU College defeated Karnataka Science College 21-17, 22-20 to wear the boys’ crown. Earlier SMPU ousted K E Board’s PU College, Malmaddi 29-13 while Karnataka Science College defeated JSS College 29-16 in the semi final matches.

Girls final was an one sided affair with Sharada PU College ousting K E Board’s PU College, Malmaddi, 21-5, 21-6.

J S S College, Vidyagiri annexed girls’ throw-ball title outplaying Sharada PU College 15-5, 15-2. On way to the final JSS drubbed Anjuman PU College and Sharada PU College humbled Basel Mission PU College by an identical margin of 2-0 sets.

Sharada PU College Principal, M K Puranik and veteran sportsman V H Kaladagi gave away the trophies n the concluding function.

Prof Ramesh Siddhanti, Virupaksh Kurtkoti, K S Bheemannavar, Rajkumar K Islampure, B D Kurkuri and Jinnappa Kundgol were present.
