State Cabinet clears North Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Project

Karnataka Cabinet today approved the Rs 1800 Crore Asian Development Bank funded North Karnataka Urban Sector Infrastructure Project.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basavaraj S Horatti said the project would be implemented in Belgaum, Bellary, Gulbarga, Hubli-Dharwad, Bidar, Bijapur and Chamarajanagara districts. Civic amenities such as sanitation, roads and drinking water would be provided under the project to be implemented before the year 2012, he added.

He said the cabinet also decided to enhance the age limit for all categories of candidates with regard to recruitment of high school teachers. Accordingly the general category age limit would be increased from the present 33 years to 40 years, Backward Classes from 36 years to 43 years and for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 38 years to 45 years.


He said the cabinet also decided to elicit public opinion with regard to implementation of 4000 mw thermal power plant near Thadadi in Uttara Kannada district for allotting 3000 acres of land for the project.
