52-acre KSRP land identified to set up campus

Bangalore: Legal education in the State is expected to reach new heights with the setting up of Karnataka Kannoonu Vishwavidyalaya. The first law varsity of the S tate would take its birth in a month if the State Go vernment acts on the r eport submitted b y university special officer J S P atil. Accor ding to the r eport available with Vi jay T imes, the university is proposed to be set up at a cost of Rs 4 2 cror e . All the 72 law colleges affiliated to various universities would become a part of the proposed university . A 52acr e KSRP land has been identified for setting up of the university campus in H ubli.

The university would have 30 centr es of e xcellence including intellectual property rights, rehabilitation, juvenile delin quency , women rights and child rights . For the first time , the university would offer certificate and diploma courses in law besides distance education. It would continue to offer both thr ee-year and five-year LLB courses .

The university also proposes to offer LLB ( honours ) course at Hubli campus with an intake of 60. A three-month long bridge course would be offered for enriching written and spoken English at beginning of each academic year .

The report also mentions that environment science, general science, psychology , criminology and commer ce and management can also be taught with legal education.
