Minister, officials steal the 'Olympic' show

Many of them cover the entire stretch of Olympic Day Run

DHARWAD: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti, Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar and Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani stole the show at the "Olympic Day Run" organised here on Sunday by running the entire 6-km stretch.

The programme, organised by the Dharwad district administration, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and Karnataka Olympic Association, was an attempt to foster Olympic spirit among people, especially youngsters.

The run began from R.N. Shetty Stadium and concluded at the same venue.

Starting from the stadium the Minister, Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner, officials and hundreds of students and sports enthusiasts passed through the Jubilee Circle, Basavanal Circle, Vivekananda Circle, KCC Bank, Gandhi Chowk, Kamanakatti Circle, Hosayellapur Circle, Valmiki Circle, Bagalkot Petrol Station, Yemmikeri, Shushrutha Hospital, Ulavi Basaveshwar Temple, Head Post Office, Court Circle, P.B. Road and returned to starting point via Jubilee Circle. The run attracted many, and at a few places, people lined up by the roadside to cheer the runners.

Mr. Horatti, district-in-charge Minister Jagadish Shettar and former Minister S.R. Morey flagged off the run.

Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner S.A. Mathad, Karnataka Olympic Association president K.V. Govindraj, secretary Anantraj, district unit president K.S. Bhimannanavar, Dharwad tahsildar Vinayak Joshi also participated in the run.

Later, certificates were given to participants.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Horatti felt such events helped in building goodwill and coordination among members of society.

He announced that a sports event comprising all events included in the Olympics would be organised in Dharwad in November in association with Karnataka Olympic Association.
