HDMC road work nearing completion

The road improvement project worth Rs 30 crore taken up in Hubli and Dharwad cities is almost complete. The updated progress report released by the Superintending Engineer of the HDMC has stated in a press release issued here that the work was allotted to four contractors dividing both cities into four zones. Except the contractor M/s Chandragiri Construction Company of Hubli (South), package no.1, other contractors have covered most of the roads in twin cities.

The contractor of package number 2, M/s Mahalingashetty and Company executed their work on November 10, 2005 and began work on schedule is supposed to finish it by August 8,2006 . The work worth Rs 10.22 crores is implemented in many parts of Hubli.

Details of road work

The names of roads are: Laxmi Weigh Bridge to Sawai Gandharva Hall; Dajibanpet Bhandari Shop to Bankapur Chowk via Javali Sal; Kittur Chennamma Circle to Bhoospet; Kamaripet Police Station to Tuljabhavani Road; Old Hubli Channapet to Nakarnagar; Dattatreya Temple to Veerapur School; PB Road to Islampur Katagar Road to Sadarsofa via Mastansofa; Koppikar Road to Victoria Road,Moorusavirmath Road, Bhille Shop to PB Road via Madar Oni; Gokul Road to Kumarvyas Nagar via Renuka Nagar, Gandhinagar; Station Road Cross to Bhandiwadbase Mosque; Koppikar Road upto Maratha Galli Cross; New English School upto Indi Pump; Dajibapet (Brindavan Circle to Bhandari Shop); Old Hubli Durgadbail to Electric Grid, Banatikatta Circle to Nava Ayodhya Nagar 2nd cross; Karnataka Bank to Mastansofa Old Hubli; Durga Vihar to Karwar Road via Glass House; Ghantikeri Police Station. to Bankapur Chowk; JC Nagar to Coon Road ; Court Circle to Circuit House; Maratha Galli Road ; Broad. way; Durgadbail Circle to Bhandiwadbase Mosque; Coen Road; Heggeri Road (Ayurvedic College Road) Part; Banatikatta Circle to Nekar Nagar; Court Circle to Brindavan Circle via Sai Mandir; Koppikar Road Cross to Station Road Cross via Nehru Stadium.

The contractor has completed road work of 16.02 km as per tender quantity. However, extra 1.5 km of roads was allotted to him which also has been completed, which increases the stretch upto 17.52 km. Allied works are under progress, as per the schedule. The percentage of work done was 109.36 per cent.

The contractor M/s N S Nayak and Sons completed work valued at Rs 5.96 crores in Dharwad city. The roads asphalted are: Tikare Road to City Police Station; Hosayallapur Sunnadbhatti to Smashangatti; Jubilee Circle to Hanuman Temple; Uday Hostel Cross to University Gate; Old Bus Stand to Gandhi Chowk; Sangam Circle to Station Road; Hanuman Temple to NTTF; Bagalkot Petrol Pump to Hosayallapur Cross; Jayanagar to Barakotri; Ganshi Nagar 4th Main Road; Gandhi Nagar Main Road to Bandemma Temple.

As against a total target of 12.48 km, the contractor has so far completed 6.75 km. The change in the list of roads on account of water supply works in demo zones is the reason for delay. Penalty is levied for delay in work as per the tender conditions. The percentage of work done is 54:08 per cent.

The road work under the pack­age no 4 taken by B T Reddy has completed the roads as follows: Anjuman Circle to CBT; Jaknibhavi via Kamat Hotel upto Regal theatre; Basavanal Circle to Shivaji Chowk via Killa Civil Hospital; Mallasajjan Vyayamshale to Saun­datti Road; Vyayamshala to Betageri Road; Manikilla to Water Tank; PB Road to Irrigation Colony; Chidambar Seva Samiti to Madihal Bus Stop; Mehaboob Nagar to Maratha Colony via Gulganjikoppa; Gandhi Chowk to Regal theatre circle; German Hospital to PB Road and UB Circle Saptapur Bhavi.

The contractor has completed 7.05 km work as against 8.45 km. The percentage of work done is 88.76 per cent.

Regarding package 1, the contractor Chandragiri Constructions has been terminated their contract with a amicable settlement in the better interest of HDMC. The report of coordinate engineer from M/s Stup Consultants Pvt Limited on June 20 and matter is being processed.
