Chamber's demands

HUBLI: The Karnatak Chamber of Commerce has identified three locations for setting up a permanent industrial exhibition centre in Hubli-Dharwad on the lines of Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Chamber president Shankaranna Munavalli, who has been unanimously re-elected to the post, told presspersons on Sunday that the chamber will take up the issue of delay in executing the Hubli-Ankola railway project, Gadag-Bijapur broad gauge conversion work, joining of the Mahadayi and the Malaprabha and other issues related to the region. The chamber has listed 18 demands with respect to the development of North Karnataka, which it will be pursuing with the Government, MLAs and MLCs of the region, he said.

Food park

A dedicated Agri-Export Zone in Hubli-Dharwad, developing "Agro Food Technology Park" in Hubli-Dharwad, Bagalkot, and Belgaum on a hub-and-spoke model, upgrading the State highways and high density traffic corridors in North Karnataka, improving arterial road network, development of Kadadi and Karwar ports, upgrading Hubli and Belgaum airports, establishing an exclusive Special Economic Zone in Hubli-Dharwad and other districts of North Karnataka are some of the issues that the chamber will take up, Mr. Munavalli said. The chamber has started correspondence with Tata group, Kalyani group and Bajaj group to set up an "Automobile Park" in Hubli-Dharwad.

Mr. Munavalli said the chamber will hold talks with the Goa Chamber of Commerce regarding the issue of joining the Mahadayi with the Malaprabha and is thinking of taking a delegation to Goa to meet the Chief Minister after discussing the issue with the Karnataka Government. He said efforts are on to start a one-year diploma course in Business Management at the chamber in association with Karnatak University.
