DHARWAD: Agricultural Minister K Srinivasgouda has said that scientists and agricultural universities should concentrate on inventing new methods to reap good benefits in agriculture by utilising less quantity of water.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony of four-day Krishi mela at University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad here on Sunday, he said the need of the hour was that we should focus on growing crops by utilising less water.

He stressed the need for carrying out agricultural activities on scientific way by utilising latest innovations in science and technology and modern equipments.

He said while developing Information Technology and biotechnology, equal importance and focus should be given for the development of agricultural sector.

Scientists should think over growing crops and helping farmers to get good produce utilising less water, he added.

He appealed to the Chief Minister on the dais to take measures to start the think-tank committee of the experts and scientists to help the farmers in carry out their agricultural activities.

Speaking on the occasion, H K Patil, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that agricultural colleges should be opened in each district to utilise the service provided by University of Agricultural Sciences.

He asked the government to start chemical residue test laboratory and farmers hostel on the premises UAS.

Participating in the function, M P Prakash, Deputy Chief Minister attributed the achievement of the India in becoming self-reliant in food production to the hard efforts of farmers and the scientists.

S R Morey, District Minister, Dr S A Patil, Vice Chancellor, UAS, Pontiff Dr Sharanbasappa Appa, MLA Vinay Kulkarni, A M Hindasgeri, MLC Basavaraj Bommai and others were present.
